Bourses and Scholarships

To finance their studies in France, students should visit our website www.usa.campusfrance.org where there is a list of available scholarships

The Embassy of France in Washington has no scholarships for students enrolled in MBA studies in France or in study-abroad programs that are entirely organized by private institutions. In these cases, students must solicit a scholarship from institutions such as Fulbright, Rotary International…

At the doctoral and post-doc levels, scholarships are available in two fields. Please visit the Chateaubriand websites:
www.france-science.org/The-Chateaub...
www.frenchculture.org/spip.php?rubr...

However at the lower levels of postsecondary studies, there are some aids available from the French government as soon as you arrive in France with a student visa. You must go to the local CROUS (= Centre Régional des Oeuvres Universitaires et Scolaires). To know where your local CROUS office is located, please go on the CNOUS (= Centre National des Oeuvres Universitaires et Scolaires) website (http://www.cnous.fr/) and select your future residence city on the map France. The nearest CROUS office’s contact information will be displayed.

There are aids for lodging that are distributed by the local CAF (= caisse d’allocations familiales) based on social criteria and factors (revenues, marital status, type of lodging, etc). There are two types of help: the APL (= aide personnalisée au logement) and the ALS (= allocation logement à caractère social). The local CROUS will provide you with the details as well as other possible aids specific to your city or your region of residence (ask for the addresses of the local Conseil Général and/or Conseil Régional). Some cities even offer free lessons of French language for foreigners. You should also contact the office for foreign students of your French university.
