La Musica Deuxième by Marguerite Duras
A stage reading in French and English subtitled in English with world-known French actress Astrid Bas and American actor Daniel Pettrow
Share a language, a desire, a look. Why in French, English…The story of a couple, separating, each in their mother tongue, and also in a common tongue, that of the couple. The Music, the music of their story. We have worked, Daniel and I, together, in a language unfamiliar for the other; one for the other, one with the other. - Astrid Bas
Actors Astrid Bas and Daniel Pettrow will read the short two-character play about a husband and wife who meet three years after their formal separation, when they return to the provincial town where they once lived to pick up their divorce decree. The revelations, though obliquely made, are quite specific. She was unfaithful. He once planned to murder her, She, unknown to him, once tried to commit suicide. With the revelations comes the ironic realization that, although each is committed to someone else, they’ve just fallen in love. The most that they can hope for themselves is that they’ll possibly meet again, sometime in the future, by accident.
