The Book Department of the Cultural Services of the French Embassy offers financial aid to American institutions wishing to invite and host French authors for readings, signings, and symposia. Click here to see our authors on tour at the moment.

In the list below, you will find French authors who are already scheduled to visit the USA. Please read their biographies to determine if they are suitable for your needs.

Jean-Christophe Valtat
Dates: Sept 15 - Oct 8, 2010

Born in 1968 Jean-Christophe Valtat has published a book of short stories, Album (Léo Scheer, 2003) and two novels for Gallimard: Exes (1997) and 03, (2005), which is to be published in the USA by Farrar Strauss & Giroux, in June 2010. His first novel in English, Aurorarama is going to be published by Melville Publishing House in August 2010. >> more

Hédi Kaddour
Dates: Oct 26 - Nov 7, 2010

Born in 1945, Hédi Kaddour is a poet, translator and novelist. He is the author of several collections of poetry published by Gallimard. He won the 2005 Prix Goncourt du Premier Roman (First Novel) with Waltenberg (Gallimard, 2005, translation by Random House, 2007). In January, Hedi Kadour published a novel, Savoir-Vivre, (Gallimard, 2010) and a diary Les pierres qui montent, notes et croquis de l’année 2010, (Gallimard, 2010). >> more

François Dosse
Dates: Sept 16 - 27, 2010

François Dosse is an intellectual historian and professor at the IUFM Créteil, the Institut d’études politiques de Paris, and the Centre d’histoire culturelle des sociétés contemporaines de l’université Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines. He is the author of numerous books including a two-volume history of structuralism. >> more


Bruce Bégout
Dates: Sept 24 - Oct 9, 2010

Philosopher Bruce Bégout is also the author of several works of fiction. Bégout concentrates on the exploration of the urban and the ordinary and everyday life. Several of his books are linked to America, its suburbs and the standardisation of our existence. His latest work to be published in English this fall: Common Place: The American Motel (Otis books / Seismicity Editions, 2010; translated by Colin Keaveney) explores the motel experience. >> more

Judith Revel
Dates: End of September, 2010

A former student of the E.N.S Fontenay-Saint Cloud, Judith Revel is a professor of philosophy at the University of Paris I Sorbonne. She is a specialist of Michel Foucault and of political philosophy from 1945 to 1980 (Foucault Deleuze, Derrida, Clastres; Merleau-Ponty, Lefort and Castoriadis…). From 1992 to 1998, Revel taught at the University of Rome III, (Department of Communications and Languages). >> more


Pierre Guyotat

Dates: April 25 - May 10, 2011

One of the most avant-garde and subversive French novelists of the later 20th century, Pierre Guyotat’s works examine the violence of language, sexuality, politics, racism and war. Tomb for 500,000 soldiers (1967) established his reputation as a controversial writer and his fourth novel, Éden, Éden, Éden, was censored immediately after publication. In 2010, Arrière-fond, his latest autobiographical book, was released by Gallimard.>> more

Christian Salmon

Christian Salmon was born in Marseille in 1951. He is a writer and researcher at the Center for Research for the Arts and Language at the CNRS in Paris. The founder of the International Parliament of Writers (promoting creative freedom), he is the author of Tombeau de la fiction, Devenir minoritaire and Verbicide and is a columist for Le Monde.>> more
