Make Music Miami returns to kick off the summer season, a free musical event inspired by the French "Fête de la Musique". The Cultural Services of the French Consulate in Miami is proud to have initiated the “Fête de la Musique” in Miami with local partners such as Rhythm Foundation, the Alliance Française of Miami and Damien B Contemporary Art Center. This gathering is one of the most important free cultural events in Miami. Make Music Miami will take place at the Alliance Française in Miami on June 21rst beginning with an open stage, following with local bands on the main stage and continuing after hours in and around the Brickell area.

In celebration of the summer season, music from all origins will be featured : first on the open stage welcoming all music lovers to perform their favourite instrument, then on the main stage with renown local bands: classic Brazilian samba from Grupo Embalo, percussions-based troupe Venus Rising, Latin-funk based world music ensemble Lanzallamas Monofonica, and DJ Pauer to spin out the concert. The halls of the Alliance Française will feature a selection of visual arts created by local artists and inspired by the theme of music, courtesy of Damien B. Contemporary Art Center. Make Music Miami will continue after hours in various late night venues of the surrounding Brickell neighbourhood: Transit Lounge, Gordon Biersch and Tobacco Road.

To see the complete schedule of the day, visit our event website: http://2009.makemusicmiami.com. Make Music Miami 2009 was made possible with the support of the City of Miami. We look forward to seeing you there, sharing our passion for music, and enjoying the day, let’s hope, in company of the sun!

About Fête de la Musique

"Fête de la Musique" began in Paris in 1982 as a new holiday celebrating the summer solstice on June 21st. It has evolved into a global music festival, featuring free music in the streets, fields and concert halls across Europe, Africa, Asia and the Americas. The festival showcases all styles of music, from traditional and classical to world music, choral and jazz, electronic and new trends. The concerts themselves – always free – range in scale from individual street musicians and club shows to massive carnivals and all-day extravaganzas in open fields and stadiums. The Cultural Services of the French Consulate in Miami has organized Fête de la Musique in Miami since 1997 with many partners such as Alliance Française and Rhythm Foundation.
