Jeunes Talents’ Exhibition

As part of an cross-cultural educational and art project, eight young photographers from major U.S. colleges were flown to Europe for ten days to document their experience of modern French life.

The innovative project, called Jeunes Talents (“young talents”) is intended to capture the spirit of modern France through the eyes of a new generation of American artists. The collection of images is stunning in its range of expression and subject matter, from portraiture to the surreal, architectural themes to landscape, naturalistic to ethereal. Students were given free reign to interpret the daily life of the city where they were assigned, and the result is a radical departure from the old iconic imagery of France. Instead, what these photographs reveal are new perspectives on contemporary society that can only come from fresh eyes. In its totality, this collection represents a summation of the artist’s feelings and personal understanding of the region that they visited: A perspective that is enlightening, and by turns beautiful and compelling.Supported by Maison de la France, Culture Service of the French Consulate and Flax.
