Guy Bedos: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow
This show has been cancelled.
Guy Bedos will finally cross the Atlantic Ocean. After his extensive tour of France and other European stops, Guy Bedos makes his first U.S. appearance in New York City on the 24th and 25th of February at Symphony Space.
His new show, entitled “Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow,” promises to be an unforgettable evening, and the show will be followed by a rare question and answer session with the artist. Guy Bedos has forged a reputation as an incisive and caustic humorist. He knows how to make people laugh where it hurts, through sketches from his repertoire, new material and his famous review of the daily newspaper. He seizes on current events, from the most farcical to the most serious aspects of life, and approaches them in a comical and at times moving way.
Guy Bedos is the humorist who has made all of France laugh since 1975. Born in Algeria, "bringing laughter from sadness" is the motto he has followed throughout his career. In his eyes political humor belongs in the repertoire, and in the timeless traditions of Aristophanes, Swift, or Chaplin, it tells the story of the world and all its seriousness.
The title of the show, "Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow," signifies that despite the fact that time marches on, nothing really changes: What Guy Bedos fought against twenty years ago—prejudice, racism and social injustice—are still the relevant and hot-button topics of today. “In the name of God, oil, or both, we tear out each other’s guts the same way that we did five hundred years ago!” Mr. Bedos has never been known to hold his tongue. Politicians from the right, left, or center get a severe telling-off. “I like talking about politics with the audience,” says Bedos, “We laugh together at the tragic craziness of the world.”
