Euronews Launches Momentum

From September 15th, 2008, euronews launches momentum a new series dedicated to business. All companies start with the expectation of success, but getting to the top and staying there is a constant challenge in a dynamic, ever-changing and uncertain world. This is the essence of momentum, a showcase of successful and adaptable businesses.

The programme focuses on change and how companies have kept the ‘momentum’ going through times of internal and external instability. euronews spoke to the decision makers and plot the journey of companies as they adapt product lines or services to new market trends, pursuing a policy of continuous innovation in order to thrive.

From hotel business to computer industry, through travel agencies and car engineering, momentum captures the moments of restructuring, and sometimes even of rebirth of the companies.

Each edition of momentum will be posted on the dedicated web section euronews.net/momentum. Visitors to the website will have the opportunity to discover exclusively for the web: 2 extra case studies, “the question of the week”, as well as other additional content. The programme is available in 8 languages: Arabic, English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.

First edition of momentum, Monday, September 15th, 20:45 CET: British sports car company Lotus

Lotus, famous for its lightweight sports cars, is becoming a heavyweight in the world of eco-friendly auto engineering.

In this edition of momentum, euronews met the men driving the company, at once developing the firm’s trade market stripped-down coupés and roadsters while also exploring the world of alternative fuels and renewable composite materials.

The team spoke to Lotus CEO Mike Kimberley, who joined the firm in 1969 while it was still run by founder Colin Chapman, only to leave in 1991 and return to head the business in 2006.

euronews also spoke to Manufacturing Director Luke Bennett about Lotus’ hand-made approach to car production, and Simon Wood, Director of Lotus Engineering about Lotus’ investment in alternative technologies. The filming took place at Lotus Headquarters at Hethel in Norfolk.
